Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University is an exclusive University for Teachers Education. It has been established by the Government of Tamil Nadu to promote excellence in Teacher Education. The prime objectives of the University is to provide high quality education, monitor Teachers’ Education as approved by National Council for Teacher Education at all levels in the State as well as to develop research facilities in Teacher Education.
Educational Streams
Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University conducts and organizes seminars, workshops and symposia for promoting teachers’ education. The University is focused to promote the quality of education and to standardize the system of operation. The University has been making continuous efforts to streamline the mushrooming teacher training institutions and bring all B. Ed. colleges under its fold. It offers two courses in the field of Teacher Education i.e. Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) and Masters of Education (M.Ed).
For securing admission in B. Ed course one should have passed the undergraduate degree examination of 10+2+3 pattern. At the end of the B. Ed course the student is expected to have an understanding of innovations in education and their trends, educational technology and approaches to teaching – learning, modern methods of teaching and the role of mass media in learning.
For admission to the M. Ed course one should have passed B.Ed from a recognized University, with a minimum of 50% marks (both theory and practicals). The programme consists of three main educational subjects, common subjects and optional subjects. Common subjects include education in the international context, Advanced Educational Psychology, Research Methodology and Educational Statistics. Candidates are allowed to choose from two optional subjects. One also has to submit a thesis that would embody the record of original investigation.
History
Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University was established by the Government of Tamil Nadu on 1st July 2008. It was declared as a University by a gazette notification issued by the Higher Education (K2) Department, dated 25.6.2008 for promoting quality in teachers education.
